SunCoast Market Co-Op
After a decade of community organizing, planning, and fundraising, SunCoast Market Co‑Op officially opened its doors on January 31, 2026 in Imperial Beach, California—becoming the first food co-op to serve the San Diego South Bay region. The community-owned grocery store was created to increase access to fresh, healthy food while strengthening the local food economy.
As a Business Builder Awardee through the Southwest Regional Food Business Center, SunCoast is using funding to support staff dedicated to identifying and onboarding local and regional farmers and food producers as vendors. In a county with more than 2,200 small farms, the co-op provides a vital seven-day-a-week retail outlet for locally grown food and value-added products.
